Should I Paint My Wood Trim White
Olivia Luz

I grew up in colonial homes which my mother tended to paint white with colonial greens golds and blues for trim. I must said that painting trim is not my favorite step in the painting process but it does make a big impact. But perhaps the most popular choice of all is to simply paint your interior wood trim and moldings in brilliant white. I agree with others that the wood trim is not the source of the lack of vibrance you can fix it by repainting the walls and either leave the wood trim as is and play it up by painting the walls with colors to make it pop or paint the trim white and then paint the walls a different color or colors to make the most of the white trim but white trim against white off white walls isn t going to add much.

I will admit my dau bought a 70 year old house and someone had painted the wide baseboards and other wood and it does look nice. I personally love the wood trim color of your house do not paint it you have so much natural sun light you don t need to paint the trim to make your house look lighter. Instead you should buy the best paint that is designed for interior wood trim. I know that sometimes painting wood white can cheapen the look so i continued to do research.

This is a total all rounder which works well with a whole variety of wall designs from those painted in white to match to others dressed up in brighter more adventurous hues or even carrying busier more involved designs. Why would i paint original trim and white at that. Or if painting exterior wood trims check that it is designed to withstand the exterior conditions.
You can always paint over the trim later but once you do it s difficult to go back. When we moved to nys our old farmhouse had red wallpaper in the lr but after a while we changed it to white again with floor to ceiling bookcases red oriental rugs and red upholstered couches as well as a fireplace with a warm cherry mantel.
