Why Do Your Fingers Get Wrinkly In Water
Olivia Luz
This causes your skin to become waterlogged.
Laboratory tests confirmed a theory that wrinkly fingers improve our grip on wet or submerged objects working to channel away the water like the rain treads in car tires. For a long time people thought the water caused skin to swell up and get puffy. Most people think that by submerging your hands in water the fingertips draw water into the skin in a process known as osmosis causing the skin to wrinkle. Vasoconstriction is the process when the blood vessels under your skin shrink.
When your nervous system is working properly soaking in water will send a message through the nerves telling those blood vessels to shrink. Now researchers believe wrinkly fingers could be an autonomic nervous system reaction. Then the water can penetrate the outer layer of your skin. So how does this lead to wrinkles.
Treatment and prevention the skin on the fingers can become wrinkly or pruney when soaked in water. Cause of wrinkly fingers in the water pruney fingers or toes are actually caused by a process called vasoconstriction.
