I think that with the election of president trump and in part because of the nature of his presidency we already have the beginnings of a legitimacy crisis. But that s not an argument for getting rid of the electoral college nor does it address the reasons people are mistakenly focusing on it. This is not a new claim. The reason the founding fathers created this system was to allow for a buffer between the popular vote and the election of the president. The electoral college as we have it now should go. The electoral college was created in part to make the states feel important in a federalist government. It is long past time to get rid of the electoral college.
