In the real world of interior design and especially when you are running an interior design business most clients care more about your services and your skills as an interior designer then a degree. Still the nature of the job of an interior designer is such that you can t completely rely on cad programs to do your work. You can thank the design societies for promoting that crap. If you don t care for the traditional collegiate setting but have a keen eye for what makes a room look right the restrictions imposed in 21 states and the district of columbia requiring at least an associate degree to take interior design certification tests may be holding you back from fulfilling your interior design dreams.
