In order to create a freestanding solution for your string lights you first need to think about how you will hang the lights. I connected the string lights to this outlet with a 12 guage weatherproof 10 foot extension cord. This reduces stress on the string light wires and keeps them from drooping. For my project i started my string lights near an outdoor weatherproof outlet.
Next you will need to decide if you want your string lights to criss cross or not. Mark the spots on the trees and drill guide holes. Drill guide holes on the trees where you want to hang the lights. When measuring for the lights be sure to take into account enough length to get to your electrical source and with the cable guide wire be sure to order enough to loop the cable back on itself at all mounting points adding about 12 inches to each span should be sufficient.
Then attach an eye to eye turnbuckle to each screw hook run guide wire between each turnbuckle and secure the guidewire to the turnbuckles with wire clamps.
